Useful information
Whether you are attending a taster session, or attending a session as a member, the following information will apply.
Please arrive in plenty of time before the start of your session- ideally 20 minutes before the session starts.
Buoyancy aids, helmets, cags and a limited number of wetsuits are available. Wear clothing suitable for getting wet (wetsuit is ideal) and a pair of wetsuit shoes or trainers that you can paddle in. If you feel the cold, then layer up- the water does get cold even in the summer months. Bring a towel and change of clothes as you will get wet! Showers and changing rooms are available, and there are a number of lockers for your personal belongings. You will need a £1 coin to operate the lockers.
No kayaking experience is needed to become a member or take part in a taster session, however you need to be confident in the water and able to swim. Bankside helpers will be available to help you get the required kit before you get on the water. Coaches and instructors will be available to support you on the water and there will always be someone available to answer any queries you may have.
If you are taking part in a taster session, then you or a responsible adult (If under 18yrs) will need to sign a consent form. If participant is under 18 then a responsible adult needs to remain on site during the session.
“Canoeing and Kayaking are “Assumed risk” – “Water contact sports” that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement”.
For children and young people under 18 who are new to paddling, we offer Discover courses over the summer period which will give you the skills needed to join in to our club sessions.
For children and young people who have paddled before, we welcome you to join in on a taster session where we can check out your ability on the water before you commit to becoming a member.
